When and where
Fri. May 4 – Sun. May 6, 2018 — Close to downtown (about 10-15 minutes away), the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre is well suited to our event.
It has plenty of free underground parking and close proximity to events, session rooms and the hooking room.
There’s lots of natural light and open spaces with cozy seating between some meeting rooms. The large ballroom will house an incredible rug hooking display and more than a dozen vendors. See more at the conference centre’s website: take the virtual tour.
Just off Highway 417, the event site is easy to drive to from most areas. We’ve heard some of you are considering hiring a tour bus. Sharing the cost with other branches is a great way to get to know fellow hookers before you land at the Annual!
If you prefer to travel by train, the Via station is only a $6-$10 taxi ride away. And, even better, VIA is offering a 10% discount off most fares – in addition to the seniors rate – for those who qualify.
Here are the details; be sure to include the Annual’s event discount code:
|VALID:||May 2 – 8, 2018|
|TERRITORY:||From all stations throughout the VIA system to Ottawa, and return.|
|RESTRICTIONS:||Fare applies to a maximum two passengers per booking.
One stopover is allowed, at no additional charge.
For travel on all fare plans in Business class, the first stopover is allowed at no additional charge, provided that this stopover is in Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa.
|DISCOUNT:||10% off the best available fare in Economy, Economy Plus, Business, Business Plus, Sleeper class, “subject to the conditions and restrictions of the fare plan to which the additional discount is being applied.”|
|EXCEPTION:||Discount does not apply to Escape fares and/or Prestige Class.|
|IDENTIFICATION:||Reference the Via convention discount code, 13608.|
To apply the discount when booking online, log in to your profile (or create one prior to booking). On the passenger information screen, select ‘Convention fare’ from the ‘Discount type’ drop-down menu, and enter your event’s discount code in the ‘Discount code’ field. The discounted fare will be shown on the next online reservation page.
We’re checking with the airlines, too (Porter, Air Canada), so watch for updates.
We initially secured a room block at preferred rates for the Annual at the Courtyard by Marriott Ottawa East. We love the fact that it’s attached to the conference centre, so you’re always just minutes away from your room. That room block (at our discounted rate) is now 80% booked, at time of writing. Hotel bedrooms are double queens or single kings, equipped with microwaves and fridges. There are very few double queen rooms still available for Sat., May 5.
To meet this early demand, we’ve now secured a second block of rooms at the other hotel attached to the conference centre: Hampton Inn by Hilton Ottawa.
The same great rates are available:
$149 for single king (room taxes extra)
$169 for double queen (room taxes extra)
*These rates apply at the Hampton Inn for bookings made by March 28.
For both hotels, the rates apply to rooms booked for the period April 30 – May 9, in case you want to extend your Ottawa visit. For either hotel, be sure to use the booking information for our group.

Yes, there will be a silent auction! We’ve already received several items, and hope many branches will respond to a request coming out this fall for contributions. Don’t you just love the shopping opportunities?
