You’ll find here important information about the 2018 Annual — from getting to Ottawa to the weekend’s program, rug hooking display, vendors and everything in between.
When and where
Ottawa Conference and Event Centre, Fri. May 4 – Sun. May 6, 2018. This bright, spacious facility is well suited to the Annual, with close proximity between the various events, workshops and hooking room. It’s located just off a major route to downtown Ottawa (about 10-15 minutes away), and on a key bus route. We think you’ll love it!
Just off Highway 417, the event site is easy to drive to and has free underground and above-ground parking. If you prefer to travel by train, the VIA station is only a $6-$8 taxi ride away. We’ve heard some of you are considering hiring a tour bus. Sharing the cost with other branches is a great way to get to know fellow hookers before you land at the Annual!
We’re contacting VIA about a discount rate, and Air Canada and Porter too — just in case anyone is planning to fly to Ottawa.
We’re confident that the official hotel for the 2018 Annual – Courtyard by Marriott Ottawa East – is a great choice. We love the fact that it’s attached to the conference centre, so you’re always just minutes away from your room.
If you haven’t reserved already, plan to do so soon! Our room block (at our discounted rate) is now 65% booked, at time of writing. Hotel bedrooms are double queens or single kings, equipped with microwaves and fridges. Even better, the preferred rates we’ve secured are:
$149 for single king (room taxes extra)
$169 for double queen (room taxes extra)
These rates apply to rooms booked for the Thursday to Sunday nights, inclusive, for an even longer stay. Be sure to use the booking code for our group. You can make reservations by:
- Phone: 613-741-9862, call to book under the group code ONR
- Online via this link: Ontario Hooking Craft Guild
The Courtyard has a restaurant, pool, gym and a spacious lobby area that’s perfect for meeting up with friends.
Consider adding an extra day to your visit, giving you time to explore the region and see some of its special sights.
About the 2018 Annual program
Watch this space for the latest updates on workshops, vendors, social events and various features as details are confirmed. We hope you’ll be pleased, and we welcome your comments and suggestions. Questions too!
Yes, there will be a silent auction! We’ve already received several items, and hope many branches will respond to a request coming out this fall for contributions. Don’t you just love the shopping opportunities?
Area 1 challenge – Help us hook the logo!
We know that Area 1 branch members are enthusiastic participants. Your contribution has already helped us land the theme for the 2018 OHCG Annual, happening in Ottawa next May.
And the great ideas have continued to flow! So here’s our challenge: hook the image of the 2018 Annual (excluding text).
Your colourful interpretations of the logo’s hook, waves and water droplets – large or small, simple or complex – will help us promote the event around Ottawa, and will be featured in a special, non-judged display at the Annual.
- make sure the graphic image (line drawing, attached) is clearly visible in your piece
- size is up to you, but remember that very large pieces may have limited use
- the line drawing can be a part of the overall hooking; it doesn’t have to dominate
- choice of any additional elements is open; we’ve seen patterns that featured the Peace Tower, icebergs, flora and fauna…
- be sure to clearly include your name, hooking branch, mailing address and phone number; we want to be able to return your unique keepsake of the 2018 OHCG Annual
- confirm that you agree to have your piece photographed, with mention of your name and branch
