You’ll find here important information about the 2018 Annual — from getting to Ottawa to the weekend’s program, rug hooking display, vendors and everything in between.
When and where
Fri. May 4 – Sun. May 6, 2018 — Close to downtown (about 10-15 minutes away), the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre is well suited to our event.
It has plenty of free underground parking and close proximity to events, session rooms and the hooking room.
There’s lots of natural light and open spaces with cozy seating between some meeting rooms. The large ballroom will house an incredible rug hooking display and more than a dozen vendors. See more at the conference centre’s website: take the virtual tour.
Just off Highway 417, the event site is easy to drive to from most areas. We’ve heard some of you are considering hiring a tour bus. Sharing the cost with other branches is a great way to get to know fellow hookers before you land at the Annual!
If you prefer to travel by train, the Via station is only a $6-$10 taxi ride away. And, even better, VIA is offering a 10% discount off most fares – in addition to the seniors rate – for those who qualify.
Here are the details; be sure to include the Annual’s event discount code:
|VALID:||May 2 – 8, 2018|
|TERRITORY:||From all stations throughout the VIA system to Ottawa, and return.|
|RESTRICTIONS:||Fare applies to a maximum two passengers per booking.
One stopover is allowed, at no additional charge.
For travel on all fare plans in Business class, the first stopover is allowed at no additional charge, provided that this stopover is in Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa.

To apply the discount when booking online, log in to your profile (or create one prior to booking). On the passenger information screen, select ‘Convention fare’ from the ‘Discount type’ drop-down menu, and enter your event’s discount code in the ‘Discount code’ field. The discounted fare will be shown on the next online reservation page.
We’re checking with the airlines, too (Porter, Air Canada), so watch for updates.
We’re confident that the official hotel for the 2018 Annual – Courtyard by Marriott Ottawa East – is a great choice. We love the fact that it’s attached to the conference centre, so you’re always just minutes away from your room.
If you haven’t reserved already, plan to do so soon! Our room block (at our discounted rate) is now 65% booked, at time of writing. Hotel bedrooms are double queens or single kings, equipped with microwaves and fridges. Even better, the preferred rates we’ve secured are:
$149 for single king (room taxes extra)
$169 for double queen (room taxes extra)
These rates apply to rooms booked for the Thursday to Sunday nights, inclusive, for an even longer stay. Be sure to use the booking code for our group. You can make reservations by:
- Phone: 613-741-9862, call to book under the group code ONR
- Online via this link: Ontario Hooking Craft Guild
The Courtyard has a restaurant, pool, gym and a spacious lobby area that’s perfect for meeting up with friends.
Consider adding an extra day to your visit, giving you time to explore the region and see some of its special sights.
The 2018 Annual program
Watch this space for the latest updates on workshops, vendors, social events and various features as details are confirmed. We hope you’ll be pleased, and we welcome your comments and suggestions. Questions too!
Check out Sessions to find details about the workshops and presentations. You’ll want to prepare for Annual registration, available in late December.
Yes, there will be a silent auction! We’ve already received several items, and hope many branches will respond to a request coming out this fall for contributions. Don’t you just love the shopping opportunities?
